Last Post for August 2011

Well this will be my last blog post for August, I can’t believe September 1st is on Thursday, this year is just flying by!!

I started last weekend’s orders on Thursday night. Ayden was having his first birthday party, and his mom and dad ordered a circus tent cake and circus themed cupcakes. I made an elephant for the top of the cake, and I was sooo happy with how it turned out. I watched a brief tutorial from youtube, which proved to be very helpful; who would have thought to use candy melts to attach the limbs, GENIUS! Check it out here.

Next I decided to take Friday evening off and leave my little bit of baking and decorating for Saturday morning, BIG MISTAKE! Although Friday was awesome, didn’t need to rush through dinner, or stay up until 2am, I actually fell asleep on the couch at 930pm, but I’m pretty sure Saturday was the hottest day of the summer; which meant Saturday was the first time I broke a sweat all summer making cakes. Lesson learned let me tell you!!

But here is my last cake/cupcake wedding combo for August!

Saturday night was another chill night, watched The Bang Bang Club which I highly recommend, and had an early night, it was a chill night for Hank too; did you know cone heads really do exist?!?! (That was Brad's line but I stole it)

Sunday the whole fam was over for my aunts surprise 50th birthday lunch, it was an awesome day with almost the entire family, which doesn’t happen as often as it should due to our crazy busy schedules.

Check out a few snap shots I took while everyone was visiting.

What did you all get up to this weekend? Any big plans for the long weekend?

Two weeks worth of cakes combined, I hope you enjoy!

Hello all!
My apologies for not blogging last week, I just wasn’t happy with what I had written L But that just means I have extra cakes to share with you, last week AND this week!

I’ll start with last week:

My first delivery was to the Italian Cultural Centre where I delivered a “fake” cake for the Bride and Groom. It was a large wedding, or at least I thought it was, the staff member at the Italian Cultural centre told me it was small – medium.  The Bride and Groom just wanted a small slice of cake in the back to cut for photos, and the rest was decorated Styrofoam. I used Duff’s Black fondant for the first time, because I find it hard to achieve a good black fondant on my own, and I was really happy with it, tasted great (even though it wasn’t being eaten) and had a nice satiny finish.

Then I headed back home to load up cupcakes for Tracy and Brian’s wedding at 18 Pastures in Mission, what a cute little location, I had never been, but it’s tucked away in the trees, with a great outdoor ceremony location and reception hall. I was having trouble getting a good photo of the entire stand because all the light was coming from behind the cupcakes, but I did my best; still so much to learn about photography.

Now on to this week:

My weekend started with a Hawaiian themed engagement party. I made hand painted fondant surfboards and fondant hibiscus, chocolate shells, and used graham cracker crumbs for sand to make this cake. I also made cupcakes to go alongside the cake, but forgot to get a picture :S

My first wedding delivery of the day was for Linda and Justin’s wedding, the location was AMAZING!! I pulled up to the farm and couldn’t believe my eyes, acres of field with mountains in the backdrop; this farm just outside of Hatzic was beautiful! I stalk follow Erin Gilmore’s blog, and when I checked my twitter feed Sunday morning I saw her sneak peak and to my surprise it was of Linda and Justin’s wedding, I took a look through the photos, as I do every time she posts a wedding, and I was pretty excited to see she got some shots of my cupcakes and the couple doing the cutting of the cake. Check out the blog here, her work is amazing!

Saturday was a gorgeous day, but it was a hot one! I refuse to complain about the heat because there hasn’t been much of it this summer, so as I drove back to Maple Ridge from Hatzic , I gladly accepted the fact that I would end up with a driver’s arm tan, lol. I headed to Kelly and Darryl’s house to drop off their cake and cupcake for their intimate wedding at their home. Kelly had a table all set up inside for the cupcakes because of the heat, Kelly looked beautiful with her hair and make up all done waiting to get into her dress and the yard looked so pretty with pink paper lanterns in the trees. Check out their cake topper, soo cute!

I wanted to share a blogger’s unite fundraiser through Global Living that Jackie from LaCasaDeSweets has organized to raise money to end starvation in the horn of Africa. Here is Jackie’s blog and donations can be made here

I hope you all had a great weekend, I’ve included a few photos from the lake Sunday, me and my cousin decided to catch some rays, even if it was a little cloudy, it was still super warm Photos are from my instagram app, i'm a bit obsessed with it, but people have mixed reviews, to each their own!

What do you think of this week and last weeks cakes? Or my Instagram shots, I love blog comments, let me know what you think!

Next week, keep your eyes peeled for a little man’s first birthday cake/cupcake combo and another wedding!!

Cakes, cupcakes and Ebi Sunomono Salad!

I hope everyone had a great weekend, I was feeling some serious vitamin V withdrawal for a while, but after the last few weeks of sunshine i’m feeling much better. Being a positive person the majority of the time, being in a funk was unlike me, but after some lunch hours spent in the sun, dinner’s out on our patio and weekends filled with beach time, things are on the up and up!
This weekend started off with a pink and green themed order for a wedding shower being put on by Alicia. I made chocolate/mocha and carrot cake cakepops, as well as some lemon mini cupcakes. I took some quick snap shots with my iPhone, but I know Alicia will blog about the shower, so you should check it out J

Next was wedding cupcakes for a high school friend of mine. We hadn’t seen each other in 10 years, but when we met to discuss the cupcakes it was like we saw each other yesterday, I love when that happens! Sending big congratulations to Serena and her husband Dan!
Saturday I delivered wedding cupcakes for a beautiful wedding at Whonnock Hall (second time at the same location this weekend, Serena’s wedding was there too, my cupcake stand had a sleep over at the hall) I walked in and gasped, the hall looked amazing. My friend Courtney from eau naturelle photography and her sister Kristen who works at Maple Ridge Florist along with some more family members transformed the hall into a beautiful woodsy themed reception, gorgeous green and brown décor!! The first photo is some baseball themed cupcakes that have a special meaning to the bride and groom. Congratulations to the new couple!

Colton from the adorable cake smash session a few weeks ago was having his Party, so I made a similar cake and matching cupcakes for his jungle themed birthday.

And lastly Bradley was turning one! Bradley’s aunt contacted me, she was on cake duty for the party, and so we created a number one shaped cake, with polk a dots and red accents, with matching cupcakes.

I couldn’t resist adding this photo of me and my niece (well technically second cousin, but she calls me aunty) We went for sushi last week, she loves miso soup, ebi sunomono salad and California rolls, but only eats the inside, lol ….Isn’t she cute?!?!

What do you think of this weeks cakes?

Extra long weekend, without cake!

My intention for this past Monday was to blog about my weekend off from cakes. It was Brad’s birthday and a long weekend so we took an extra day off on Friday and loaded our weekend with fun times. I was going to take all these wonderful photos to share with you, and then on Monday when I went to look through the photos I was disappointed with the ones on my DLSR, none were overly exciting. I was bummed and decided I would just skip this week and start up again next week with more cake photos. But after looking through my iPhone photos I decided that I have a few cute ones to share from our weekend.
Thanks to all of our family and friends who came out to celebrate Brad’s birthday, I know he was very touched!
So here we go….
We kicked off Thursday, Brad’s actual birthday, with dinner at his parents’ house; birthdays would not be complete without an ice cream log from DQ and sparklers!

His dog and best bud Fin got a new hair cut for the occasion ;)

Friday we hung the patio lanterns (Cue Kim Mitchell) for our BBQ that night

The evening was filled with ladder ball (now named donkey balls by all of our friends)

and Margarona’s or Beergarita’s!

Nothing exciting happened Saturday due to too many margarona's, but Sunday we went to the Gun Range, a gift to Brad from his best friend. I have to say it scared the poop out of me, but I’m glad I tried it. Check out the look on my face!
And Monday we finished off the weekend with a skim session at the Res in White Rock.

There you have it, an extra long weekend, without cake!
Let me know what you think of our weekend fun :)
